The New Age is a loose term identifying a comparatively recent movement involved in searching out our spirituality on our own instead of following the constraints of organized religion. It’s thought that about 20% of American adults hold at least some New Age beliefs. New Agers usually believe in prophecy by Tarot, numerology, runes, astrology, channeling, and psychics. This movement is always looking for options to the status-quo in religion, spirituality and medical practices.

New Agers are commonly open to beliefs like Spiritualism, Theosophy, the Kabbalah, alchemy, magick, color therapy, aroma therapy, healing with crystals and gemstones, faith healing, curing with creative visualization, metaphysical healing, hypnotic healing, astrology, natural healing like herbal remedies, and holistic wellness, which cares for the complete individual instead of only diseases. It’s a trend towards the integration of body, mind and spirit. The term New Age, itself, seems to pertain to to the shifting of the astrological historic period of Pisces to that of Aquarius.

Many of these feelings tend to be strengthened by contemporary Einsteinian and quantum physics, because spiritualists, religious mystics, and advanced physicists all appear to identify reality in fundamentally the same manner.

In the mid to late 1800s, a Russian-born psychic and mystic, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, (1831-1891) came on the scene in the Western world. Her New Age spiritual philosophy began a leaning toward metaphysics that was carried on as the “New Age” throughout the 20th and into the 21st centuries. She was the founder of the  Theosophical Society, which is still extant to this day. She introduced a good part of the vocabulary of the New Age, which is still in wide usage, and formed a path upon which many other New Age teachers taught and expanded upon. Much of what she taught was used in the occult organization, The Esoteric Order of the Golden Dawn, founded in 1888.

A lot of this belief system was introduced during the early 1900’s by a man named Edgar Cayce, recognized as The Sleeping Prophet. For more than four decades Cayce put himself into a trance state, daily, and did readings for virtually thousands of folks postulating every sort of enquiry conceivable. Many of his readings pertained to the health of the individuals. Cayce's "prescriptions" were quite unusual, but it is claimed that, if his directions were followed exactly, just about everyone he did health readings for recovered from their dis-ease.

The Entities chanelled by Cayce also covered many other areas of metaphysics, including a more mystical approach to understanding the Judeo/Christian Bible, information on crystals and gemstones, Atlantis, Lemuria, reincarnation (although Cayce didn't believe in reincarnation when this information began coming through) and many other new age subjects. He, too, played a big part in introducing much of the new age vocabulary.

During the early 1960’s a writer by the name of Jane Roberts conducted a study of ways to develop E.S.P. and, through this study, she acquired the ability to channel a personality who identified himself as Seth, and described himself as an energy essence personality. For the next two decades the channeled Seth material was the foundation of volume after volume of philosophy and wisdom, until Roberts passed on in 1984.

Some of the titles of these books include: The Seth Material; Seth Speaks; The “Unknown” Reality; The Nature of the Psyche; The Individual and the Nature of Mass Events. In 1993, a psychic investigator by the name of Richard Roberts produced a compilation of Seth’s most important works entitled A Seth Reader. . If money is tight, A Seth Reader is right at the top of my list for you to read. Give this material a read; it surely opened my eyes! The Seth books can be found at Amazon.com. Many of the New Age beliefs are at least partly adopted from a lot of the world’s religions from the mystical point of view. Reincarnation is an outstanding characteristic of New Age thinking. Other beliefs include:

• All humanity, indeed all life – everything in the universe – is spiritually interlinked, taking part in the same energy. “God” is only one name for this Great Energy Flow.

• Spiritual beings (such as angels, ascended masters, elementals, ghosts, and/or space aliens) exist, and will guide us, if we open ourselves to their guidance.

• The human psyche has deep levels and immense abilities, which are adequate to even overruling tangible reality. “You create your own reality.”

• The individual has a purpose here on earth, in the existing situations, as there’s a lesson to learn from each personal experience.

• Intuition or “inspiration” is a more suitable guide than rationalism, scientific skepticism, or the scientific technique.

• Western scientific discipline incorrectly disregards such things as psychic phenomena, meditation, and holistic wellness.

• There is a mystic nucleus within all religious beliefs, Eastern and Western.

• Feminine sorts of spirituality, such as feminine images of the Divine, like the female Aeon Sophia in Gnosticism, have been subdued, cloaked, or obscured by patriarchal religions that were widely applied when hallowed teachings were originally put into writing.

• Meditation, yoga, t’ai chi ch’üan, and other Eastern techniques are useful and worthwhile.

• Scientific discipline and spirituality are, in the final analysis, harmonious. Fresh breakthroughs in science, like. evolution and quantum mechanics, once rightly understood, bespeak spiritual precepts.

• An appeal to the language of nature and math, as attested by numerology in Kabbala, gnosticism and so forth., to recognize the nature of God.

• The food you consume bears an effect upon your mind in addition to your physical structure. It’s typically preferable to eat fresh organic vegetarian food which is locally farmed and in season. Un-cooked food and sprouted seeds possess an especially spirit raising character.

• Fasting can assist you in achieving higher levels of cognizance.

• In the final analysis, every interpersonal relationship bears the potentiality to constitute a helpful experience in our own spiritual growth. As Souls in a quest for unity, our goal is eventually to to acquire the ability to love everybody with whom we come in contact.

• Stones and crystals bear particular psychic vitalities and can become an aid to meditation and healing.

• Everything around you holds spiritual significance, and spiritual lessons to teach you.

• The mind has concealed powers and abilities, which hold a spiritual significance.

• Dreams and psychic experiences are manners in which our souls express themselves.

• A positive mental attitude backed up by affirmations can accomplish success in everything.

• There’s a cosmic goal. There is generally an opinion that all entities are (volitionally or unwillingly) collaborating in some cosmic goal of reaching a higher or purer coherence with a Cosmic Awareness (or some other goal of Goodness), frequently identified as an evolutionary process or, simply to learn.

The “New Age” isn’t entirely of a spiritual nature, it also has its physical side. It takes into consideration the truth that our sensory faculties are extremely limited in what they can perceive. Modern physics teaches, “there’s actually no such thing as solid substance at all!" Jane Roberts’ Seth taught that we require these camouflage systems to experience the things we require so we can grow spiritually.

In all likelihood the most significant of the New Age beliefs is something Seth and a lot of other channeled entities have been teaching regularly since the 1960’s; that is: You Create Your Own Reality! What you perceive in life is directly related to what you expect to experience. Our choices are based on our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes. Each decision is directly responsible for its final outcome. Thus, with your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and choices, You Create Your Own Reality! The good news is, You can control your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and choices.

Once Again, You Create Your Own Reality!

My prayer for you is that you use your thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and choices to create for yourself a beautiful reality full of life, light, love, and happiness!
