I have written about the levels of mind on other pages but I have to revisit the subject here. Simply speaking, we have three basic levels of mind: The Conscious Mind, The Subconscious Mind, and The Superconscious Mind.

The Conscious Mind is our experiential mind the level in which we experience ourselves and the world we live in. With the Conscious Mind, we think things over and make our decisions.

The Subconscious serves two distinct purposes: It remembers everything we have ever experienced, thought or said. We may not have immediate access to this memory but the Subconscious never forgets anything!

Secondly, the Subconscious creates the reality we experience! I know this may be hard to swallow, but it is true nonetheless.

Briefly, the Superconscious Mind is our connection with the Infinite, All There Is, The Creator, God. There are some other levels of mind but they are sublevels of Superconsciousness and can only be experienced by those who have become conscious travelers in the astral worlds and above. Actually, the Superconscious doesn’t figure in to the material we’re discussing here.

Quantum physics has shown that there is no such thing as a fixed reality. On the subatomic level, everything is just a matter of probabilities and our reality is created on the subatomic level. To carry this a bit further, these physicists have shown that when they run tests on this level, their expectations actually effect the outcome of the experiments. They actually create the reality they are testing on the level in which all creation takes place! We do the same with our beliefs and expectations. And it is done on the Subconscious level of Mind.

The Subconscious can’t think, as we know thinking, or make judgements on the information we give it. It simply remembers everything we tell it and creates the reality it believes we desire. And, it makes this reality according to our thoughts, ideas and attitudes and from our self-talk.

We are engaged in self-talk every waking moment in our lives. If you have a hard time understanding this, just try to blank out you mind; still your thoughts. You will soon find that your Conscious Mind is ever involved in a conversation with itself. This is why it is so difficult to learn to meditate. There is an old oriental saying that the mind is like a crazy monkey, always jumping from one thing to another.

This self-talk is what tells the Subconscious what we want. Have you ever noticed that negative thinkers tend to live in a negative world? They believe things will go wrong with whatever they attempt, and most usually things do go wrong. They are saying to themselves, “Nothing ever goes right for me; whatever I try to do goes wrong!” And they repeat this, or other variations of it, over and over again!

The Subconscious hears this and says to itself, “Oh, this is what he wants,” and it goes to work creating it. And the person gets what he expects.

On the other hand, have you noticed that positive thinkers live in a positive world? They see the world as a series of opportunities just waiting to be taken advantage of. And this is the world they live in. Their self-talk is different from most people. They think, “What a wonderful world I live in. It gives me everything I need and more!” Their Subconscious Mind hears this, repeated over and over, believes it, and creates it!

So – what kind of world do you live in?  Is it what you expect it to be? Are you happy with it? Or would you like to see it change for the better? You can change your world: All you have to do is change your mind! And how do you do that? By changing your self-talk. Your Subconscious Mind will believe whatever you tell it most often; and it will create the reality it believes you want, or expect. We do this with positive self talk.

Émile Coué (1857 – 1926) was a French pharmacist and self-made psychologist who more or less invented the idea of positive self-talk. He introduced a method of psychotherapy, healing, and self-improvement, based on the affirmation, “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.” He appears to have founded the term, “autosuggestion”. He introduced the idea that reprogramming the Subconscious would automatically improve people’s lives. He had remarkable success with this method, on many different physical and emotional problems. Years later, Jose Silva used that affirmation, in his Silva Mind Control training. He simply added an extra “better”. “Every day in every way I’m getting better and better and better!” Apparently, this added more power to the Affirmation.

Coué’s method involved having his patients repeat this affirmation 20 to 30 times each morning upon awakening and each night just before going to sleep. This gave good results in most cases. But, if you tend to be a cynic, a worrywart, or a negative thinker in general (you probably tell yourself you’re just thinking realistically) you may be programming your Subconscious negatively many times a day, overriding the morning and evening affirmation sessions. In this case, you need to repeat it, or other positive self-talk, many times during the day.

First, you need to look clearly and honestly at your thought patterns. Do your thoughts represent what you really want to experience in your life? If not, it’s affirmation time. Each time you “hear” yourself thinking either negative or cynical thoughts, think strongly, “ERASE”! Then, follow it up with your affirmations several times. What we want to do, here, is let your Subconscious “hear” these positive thoughts more often than the negative ones. Whatever the Subconscious Mind “hears” the most, it will believe! And?what it believes you want it WILL CREATE in your life!

Do you want your life to get better? Try affirmations… They really make a difference! Think or say them with strong emotion. This will get your Subconscious Mind’s attention, and give them more power. As you do this, try to “feel” the feelings you will have when these changes come into your life. Again, that adds power to them. And, finally, always make them in the present tense. The Subconscious doesn’t understand time. Make it your reality NOW!

Here are a few affirmations you can use. It’s more effective if you use one for a week or so, and then change to another one of your choice. Just keep your Subconscious constantly “hearing” positive thoughts!

•  Every day in every way I’m getting better, and better, AND BETTER!

•  Negative thoughts and negative suggestions have NO effect upon me at any level of mind!

•  Every day, I take the time to count my many blessings!

•  I appreciate every moment of my life as a gift from God (use your own name for the Deity). I don’t dwell on the dead past or the imagined future!

•  I am a non-worrier! If something can be done about a problem, here and now, I do it! If not, I let it go!

•  I always remember: To be upset over what I don’t have, is to waste what I do have!

•  I look at my life optimistically. I am eager to accept new challenges!

•  With each new challenge, I look for the opportunities it presents?and find them!

These affirmations should get you started. You can create your own as you find new ways you’d like to improve your life-experience. Keep them positive: Don’t say “I am quitting smoking,” say, “I am a non smoker”. And, always keep them in the present; that way the subconscious makes the changes in the present. Program your Subconscious today… You can change your whole life for the better.
